On March 14th, 2016, Mr. Zhou Xuewen, Vice Minister of Water Resources, met Mr. Deng Mingkui, the Vietnamese ambassador to China, to exchange ideas on strengthening bilateral water cooperation in Lancang-Mekong River and helping Vietnam to respond the drought in the Mekong River Basin.
Vice Minister Zhou Xuewen pointed out that the China-Vietnam friendship was linked by mountains and rivers. On the basis of the spirits of "good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners", two countries established the comprehensive strategic partnership. At present, the continuous deepening of bilateral relation brings a good opportunity for bilateral cooperation in the field of water resources. Vice Minister Zhou said that recently the Mekong River Delta in Vietnam suffered a severe drought, and Vietnam requested assistance to china. China attached a great importance and formulated the emergency plan of water diversion. This action fully reflects the concern of China towards the interests of downstream countries, and also highlights the profound friendship between China and Vietnam.
Mr. Deng Mingkui highly appreciated efforts and sacrifice made by China. Water resources are the important support and guarantee for the sustainable development, and Vietnam positively responds the initiative of the Lancang-Mekong River cooperation mechanism and is willing to further carry out technical exchanges and cooperation in the field of water resources under this mechanism with China.
