On September 22, Liu Dongshun, Vice Minister of Water Resources, met with Chen Guangzhe, Vice President for Planet at the World Bank Group in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on deepening pragmatic cooperation in the water sector.
Liu Dongshun stated that the Ministry of Water Resources has maintained long-standing friendly cooperation with the World Bank Group and achieved fruitful outcomes in water project construction and knowledge sharing. Guided by the water governance principles of “prioritizing water conservation, balancing spatial distribution, taking systematic approaches, and promoting government-market synergy” proposed by President Xi Jinping, the Ministry is comprehensively advancing key priorities of water security for the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030). The Ministry stands ready to conduct diverse forms of policy dialogues, technical exchanges, case sharing and capacity building activities with the World Bank Group. By doing so, the two sides will be able to refine China’s water governance solutions in areas of mutual interest and share them with countries of the Global South through the knowledge centers of the World Bank Group, so as to jointly enhance water security guarantee capacity and advance water-related targets of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Chen Guangzhe spoke highly of China’s achievements in high-quality water sector development, saying that the World Bank Group stands ready to continue leveraging its dual role as both a financing bank and a knowledge bank, deepen project cooperation and knowledge exchange with the Ministry of Water Resources, so as to generate more replicable and scalable water governance practices to help enhance global water governance capacity.
