Department of Irrigation, Drainage and Rural Water Supply

Main functions: organize formulation and implementation of policies, rules and regulations, development plans and technical standards on irrigation, drainage and rural water supply; organize and coordinate farmland irrigation and drainage projects, and undertake daily management work of the Office of Farmland Irrigation and Drainage Construction of the Ministry; give directions to safe drinking water supply in rural areas, and water supply and drainage in townships and villages, and organize implementation of project for safe drinking water supply, farmland irrigation and drainage, and rehabilitation of irrigation district by application of water-saving irrigation technology, counterpart irrigation system construction and re-modernization of pumping station; provide guidance on pilot project construction and water-saving experiment and demonstration; promote rainwater storage and utilization in rural areas, organize implementation of small on-farm water facility projects with subsidy of the Central Government, and construction and management of national key water projects for agricultural comprehensive development; organize implementation of water projects in pastoral areas; and guide the reform of rural water management system, and establishment of rural water service system and extension of new technologies.
