Minster Chen Lei met Vice Minister of the Polish Environment

On May 12, Mr. Chen Lei, Minister of Water Resources, met Mr. Marlise Gada, Vice Minister of Polish Ministry of Environment, who just attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing. Two sides exchanged views on the implementation of MOU and furthering up bilateral cooperation in the water sector.


Minister Chen noted that, under the witness of Chinese and Polish Premiers, two Ministries signed the MOU and decided to strengthen cooperation in the areas of water policy and regulation formulation, integrated water resources management and sustainable development, flood control, drought relief, disaster mitigation, water infrastructure construction. The signature of MOU marks a new step of water cooperation between China and Poland.


Minister Chen pointed out that China and Poland enjoy huge potentials in water development, utilization and protection. He hoped that both sides carry out mutually beneficial exchanges and cooperation in various forms under the MOU framework and share experiences in the fields of water resources management, project construction, flood control and disaster reduction. Firstly, two sides shall increase high-level visits and policy dialogue, deepen mutual understanding and promote pragmatic bilateral cooperation. Secondly, Minister Chen proposes to reinforce cooperation multilateral mechanisms such as China Europe Water Platform, further deepening China-Poland bilateral cooperation along with the cooperation between China and Europe. Thirdly, exchange of expert visits and joint research projects shall be encouraged among river basin authorities and research institutes.


Vice Minister Gada spoke highly of the signature of MOU. He stated that Poland attaches great importance to water resources management and stands ready to share vast experience with China in legislation and law enforcement for water resources protection, surface water and groundwater management and other fields. He hopes to enhance bilateral cooperation and make joint efforts to cope with common challenges faced by two countries.


Officials from relevant departments of Ministry of Water Resource attended the meeting.
