On May 31, 2016, Mr. Jiao Yong, Vice Minister of Water Resources met Mr. Rene Orellana Al Kyel, Minister of Development and Planning of Bolivia, in Beijing. Both sides deeply exchanged ideas in the fields of water resources management, hydropower development, etc.
On behalf of Ministry of Water Resources and Minister Chen Lei, Vice Minister Jiao Yong expressed his warm welcome towards the Bolivian friends. He pointed out that two sides had a long history of water cooperation. In 1997, two sides signed the memorandum of understanding in the field of sea buckthorn cooperation. In the future, two countries will have broad cooperation prospects including water resources management, water environment protection, irrigation, hydropower development and others. Vice Minister Jiao Yong also introduced the most strict water resources management system currently implemented in China, and China was willing to share water experience with the Bolivian colleagues.
Minister Orellana expressed his gratitude for the support of China in the aspects of water resource and sanitation in Bolivia, and he introduced the current situations of hydropower development, soil and water conservation, irrigation and other aspects in Bolivia as well as the 2015 - 2020 Bolivian economic and social development plan. He hoped to strengthen technical exchanges with China.
Officials from relevant departments also attended the meeting.
