From November 18 to 20, 2015, the 25th conference of the Water and Health Advisory Committee of the United Nations Secretary General was held in New York. The main task of the conference is to summarize the work of the Advisory Committee since its inception, and propose the relevant recommendations for implementing the 2030 sustainable development of water and health objectives after the mission end of the Advisory Committee. In the meeting, Mr. Chen Lei, Minister of Water Resources, attended the conference and made a keynote speech on behalf of the Advisory committee.
After the successful completion of the 25th conference of the Advisory Committee, on the invitation of the Commander of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Minister Chen Lei visited the wetland protection project in Florida and the reconstructed flood control projects after Sandy Hurricane in New York including tide gate in New Orleans, West closed pumping station system and river channel closed pumping station. During the visit, Minister Chen Lei carried out deep exchanges and discussions with the US colleagues on the issues of flood and typhoon (hurricane) disaster prevention, water optimized allocation and scientific regulation, water project operation, management and maintenance, wetland protection as well as ecological civilization construction. He stated that China and US shall further strengthen the cooperation in the aspects of climate change, flood and typhoon disaster reduction, water resources management and the areas with mutual interests with the spirits of cooperation and win-win principle.
