Recently, Mr. Chen Lei, Minister of Water Resources, met Ms. Elizabeth Truss, UK Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and her colleagues. The two sides deeply exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation on water resources.
Minister Chen spoke highly of the China-UK water cooperation. He pointed out that in recent years China and UK have been carrying out a series of concrete and pragmatic cooperation in the fields of rural water reform, watershed management, water demand management and rural water supply safety. The UK technologies and equipments in flood risk management, flood warning, water ecological protection and water environment monitoring are effectively applied in China. He indicated that the bilateral water cooperation has a long history, solid foundation and wide range and now both countries are confronted with common challenges on water protection, water pollution and climate change. China would like to further promote and constantly deepen the bilateral cooperation in the field of water resources with UK.
Ms. Elizabeth Truss agreed with Minister Chen. She highly appreciated the achievements of China in the aspects of flood management, food security and water sustainable utilization, and introduced the successful practices of UK in water resources management, water infrastructure and wastewater treatment. She further said that UK is ready to enhance the water cooperation with China to promote the water development of both sides.
Senior officials from relevant departments of MWR also attended the meeting.
