Water level of barrier lake in landslide-hit area in SW China back to normal
  2018-10-16 15:48

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- A barrier lake formed by a landslide near a section of the Jinsha River in southwest China saw its water level return to normal late Sunday, Chinese authority said, adding that no casualties have been reported.

Water level from upper to lower reaches of the river remained steady, the Ministry of Emergency Management said in a statement. No casualties have been reported in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces and Tibet Autonomous Region by 5 p.m.

The ministry called for continued alert and monitoring work in order to ensure that residents' lives and properties are safe.

The landslide happened on Thursday and led to the formation of the barrier lake.

Water from the upper stream had burst through the blockade, causing the water level in the barrier lake to significantly drop.

More than 21,000 people had been relocated by 2 p.m. Friday. (Source: Xinhua)
